Why am I writing this blog? Why am I recording the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea?

Sunrise over the Seto Inland Sea as seen from Mt. Shiude in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture My Story
Overlooking Ehime Prefecture from Mount Shiude in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture.

I am currently based in the Setouchi region, where I record the scenery, sounds, and flow of time.

This blog is neither a tourist blog nor a specialized blog that explains photography techniques.

What I've written here is a record that includes my judgments and emotions, such as "why I photographed that place" and
"why I wanted to capture that moment."

Photographs and videos don't last simply because they're beautiful.
I believe they only become "meaningful" when there's a reason and background behind them.

I moved overseas at the age of 42 and lived and worked in Malaysia and Thailand.

Living abroad naturally increases the amount of time you spend looking at Japan from the outside rather than from the inside

In the midst of all this, I began to feel a strong sense of discomfort.

The fact is that Japan's landscape, especially areas like the Seto Inland Sea with its beautiful islands, is rarely properly communicated to the world.

Although there is a lot of information about flashy tourist spots and famous cities, there is little shared information about the atmosphere of places where people live, the sound of rain, fog, and the value of quiet time.

The Setouchi region, which surrounds the Seto Inland Sea, is by no means a flashy place.

The area lacks scenery that makes it a strong tourist destination, and it lacks clarity that can be recognized at a glance.

but,

  • Living close to the sea
  • A mix of man-made and natural
  • Rain, fog, and noise often take center stage

I've come to feel that these elements are especially valuable because I've lived abroad

I believe the charm of the Setouchi region is not something that can be understood through explanation, but rather something that can only be truly appreciated through experience

That's why I chose to leave it in the form of a record rather than a tourist guide.

In this blog,

  • Behind the scenes
  • The reason for choosing that location
  • Any doubts or decisions you had during filming

These are the parts that cannot be seen in the finished video, and are left in words.

At the same time, I am recording my own experience as an example of how it is possible to rearrange your life and take on new challenges even after your 40s.

This isn't a success story meant to inspire anyone. It's a record of my ongoing journey , including trial and error and moments of uncertainty .

This blog is a record of my own activities,

  • Records of the Setouchi region
  • Records of daily life in Japan
  • Reference material for those who want to start something new

It is also.

My only goal would be if the articles written here could provide some inspiration to someone or inspire them to reexamine the landscape of Japan.
