Introduction
my previous article, "A Challenge at 50:Why I Decided to Start Hosting Airbnb Experiences on Naoshima," I wrote about the background behind my decision to start hosting Airbnb experiences on Naoshima.
This time, as a continuation of that, I would like to talk about the "teaser video" we created for Airbnb Experiences and the intention behind it
I hope that reading this article will give you a better understanding of what they value about their Airbnb experience and the perspective they want you to have when walking around Naoshima
Why I created this Airbnb Experience teaser
The teaser video intentionally does not include much explanation
This is because it was not created as an introductory video for a tourist spot, but as an "entrance to experience the atmosphere of Naoshima."
Naoshima has many quiet spots that aren't mentioned in guidebooks.
There, you can find a different kind of atmosphere than the famous landmarks, but one that is undeniably "Naoshima-like."
In my Airbnb experience (Naoshima Course), I want you to experience its quiet charm as you walk with me
The "real Naoshima" that I saw
I was not a tourist, an artist, or even a so-called guide
I spent a long time on Naoshima, almost in the position of "protector" and "watcher" of the artwork
Walking the same path, passing the same artwork, and gazing at the same sea almost every day—when
days like these continue, the way you see the scenery gradually begins to change.
Even though it was a place that tourists would pass right by, to me, who studied art in high school, it naturally appeared as a place with artworks
There have been times when I have noticed later that places that people would say "there's nothing here" actually housed works by artists I encountered while living abroad
There were many such "moments of connection" on Naoshima
What I want to convey through my Airbnb experience
I don't intend to give a lecture on art during this Airbnb experience
It's not about whether you have knowledge or not;
I'd be happy if we could share that feeling of "something that just catches my attention" or "something that leaves a lasting impression that I can't put into words."
During the Airbnb experience, we will not only look at the artwork itself, but also pay close attention to the atmosphere and distance of the artwork, in relation to its location
The art gathered on Naoshima isn't just found inside museums.
Many pieces are integrated into the island's daily life and blend seamlessly into the landscape.
Recommended for:
- For those who are not satisfied with just famous spots
- People who find travelling more enjoyable when they know the background of a place
- Those who value the atmosphere they felt at the time more than the photos
- Those who are also interested in the charm of a quiet island
If any of these apply to you, we're sure you'll enjoy a new side of Naoshima
lastly
Naoshima is known as a glamorous tourist destination, but if you take a quiet stroll around the area, you'll find many small discoveries hidden behind the scenes
The teaser video was created as an introduction.
If anything catches your interest, please join us on a walk through the Airbnb experience.
