Dawn greeted in a quiet car on a winter's early morning
This video was taken on the Sunrise Seto sleeper express train
at around 6:50 AM on February 17, 2024. Just as the train crossed the Great Seto Bridge, the sky in the east began to lighten and the sun appeared over the horizon of the Seto Inland Sea.
The Sunrise Seto (Izumo) is the only regularly scheduled sleeper express train in Japan that connects Tokyo and Takamatsu (Izumo).
Departing Tokyo late at night and heading to Shikoku early in the morning, this train is not only a means of transportation, but also an opportunity to experience "the time itself as night turns to morning."
Limited seasons and conditions for viewing the sunrise over the Seto Inland Sea
There are very few times of the year when you can see the sun rising over the Seto Inland Sea directly from inside a train crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge .
Specifically, this is around February and October . This is a moment that only happens for a short period of time when the angle of the rising sun and the time the train is running coincide.
Furthermore, on this day,
- I was able to get a spacious seat on the second floor on the left side of the train.
- There were no clouds in the direction of the rising sun
If any one of these conditions

The seat where the photo was taken a spacious second-floor seat .
I was able to lie down and look out the window at almost eye level.
It was early in the morning in winter, so it was cold outside and the air was clear, and the pre-dawn sky slowly changed color from deep blue to pale orange.
The surface of the Seto Inland Sea was calm, with no strong waves, and it was impressive to see the silhouettes of the islands quietly emerging into the sky.
A record of travel, including the sounds of trains
I used
a TASCAM DR-07X to record the audio, capturing the sound of the train crossing the bridge, the vibrations from the train passing through the rail joints, and the conductor's occasional announcements.
The footage also includes the slight rustling of clothing and the sounds of movement as I changed positions during filming. I
chose not to erase these sounds, instead preserving the "feeling of being there."
Exclusive footage shared only with blog readers
This video is not available to the general public on YouTube . I
am posting it here because I want to share the atmosphere of the day with only those who read my blog.
The scenery that appears for just a few minutes while traveling.
Rather than letting it pass by as "the time it takes to reach your destination," I want to capture it as an experience.
I hope to record that.
