On an unexpected morning, we head to Yakake, a rainy post town

A traditional Japanese house located in Yakage-cho. Filming Diary
A traditional Japanese house located in Yakage-cho. Behind it is a plaza where events can be held.

One day, I was casually watching the NHK evening news at home, and
by chance the special feature that day was a live broadcast from Yakage Town, Okayama Prefecture.

The story was about a reporter making an original local soda, but I suddenly got curious and looked up Yakage Town on Google Maps...and I was surprised.

There, you will find a post town with a well-preserved Edo period townscape

The decision to shoot took place a day after seeing the live TV broadcast.
The weather forecast predicted that it would rain more heavily in Okayama than in Kagawa.

So, I decided to get in the car at 5am and head towards Okayama.
However, I was debating until the last minute whether to make my destination "Yakage Town" or "Ojigatake (Kojima)."

Mt. Oji is sure to be foggy,
but Yakage Town has the charm of being a "post town in the rain."

On the way across the Seto Ohashi Bridge, Yoshima Parking Area and checked the cloud movement on the Yahoo! Weather app.
Then I had a hunch.

"This means heavy rain is coming to Yakage Town."

I put aside my doubts and decided to head to Yakage Town

However, something unexpected happened.
As we were driving, it started pouring rain just as predicted.

Just before getting off at Tamashima Interchange, the rain was so heavy that my car's visibility sensors malfunctioned.
After getting off the highway, I relied on Google Maps navigation, but the rain was so loud I couldn't hear the navigation system.

As a result, I missed the intersection where I should have turned and had to take a slightly longer detour
, losing about 10 minutes .

To be honest, at that time I was worried that I might not make it in time

Somehow, we arrived at the post town area of Yakage Town.
our car the roadside station Sanyo Road Yakagejuku . It was still raining quite heavily, so we hurriedly prepared our equipment while holding our umbrellas.

This time too, I didn't have the time to calmly shoot the footage.
this is the video I ended up taking .

I shot a rainy day in Yakage-cho. There wasn't much rain this time either, so the sound of rain I was able to record was average.

I always think that when I go to a location, there are so many unexpected things that happen.
The intensity of the rain, the movement of people, the lighting, unexpected events...

It's not easy to shoot the way you envision it beforehand.
But, including these coincidences, I think the footage of Yakage Town this time was able to show the "real face of a post town in the rain."
