Of the 88 sacred sites of Shikoku, this time the 82nd temple, Negoroji, located in Kagawa Prefecture .
I have previously visited Yashima-ji, Zentsu-ji, Hashikura-ji, and Unpen-ji, but
when I was thinking about which temple to visit next, Negoroji .
Located in the mountains at an altitude of about 400m, there was a high chance of encountering fog if the conditions were right.
With this expectation in mind, I made my decision one morning.
What was outside my window at 7am?
On the day of the shoot,
the rainy season was coming to an end and the weather forecast was uncertain.
I was skeptical whether it would rain or not, but the moment I looked out the bathroom window at 7am, everything was decided.
The Goshikidai mountains were shrouded in mist, as if covered by a white veil
"I have to go,"
he said, deciding on the spot to head to Nekoji Temple.
Unexpected rush hour and construction traffic jams
I borrowed my mother's car and set off just after 7 a.m.
The journey would normally take less than 30 minutes, but I ended up falling into the morning rush hour.
Traffic congestion is particularly severe on the Sanukihama Kaido, and
to make matters worse, construction work to quadruple the tracks in the Goshikidai Tunnel has limited traffic to one lane in each direction.
As a result, the usual superstition that the rain will subside once we reach our destination came into play once again.
I found myself laughing a little, thinking, "I thought so..."
Arriving at Nekoji Temple and entering a quiet space
When I arrived, there were already two worshippers in the temple grounds. (There are moments in the video where you can hear a little voice, but it's the voice of someone who had already arrived.)
While most of the filming is done in spaces with few people, it was a morning at the temple where I shared the same space with someone .
Although the rain had subsided, we quickly prepared our equipment and began recording
Greenery, moss, the sound of rain, and fog
In late June, the greenery is at its deepest and the moss is rich with moisture.
When I walked along the mountain path that deviated a little from the temple grounds, I came across a scene that felt like I was walking through a mist.
The sound of rain also a quiet sound, like drops falling on fallen leaves , making for a satisfying recording.
88 locations and counting
This brings my total to one of the 88 locations I've photographed.
There are still many temples in Shikoku that are quiet and surrounded by nature, like Nekoji Temple. I would particularly like to visit the temples in Kagawa and Ehime prefectures, which face the Seto Inland Sea.
It was a day that strengthened my desire to visit each place and bring tranquility and beauty to the world.
Supplement: I missed the "Ushioni"
there was
a stone statue of the yōkai Ushi-oni (cow demon) right in front of the car we parked in the parking lot I found out about it later and couldn't help but regret not taking a picture.
It's important to do your research beforehand ...

The footage is currently available on
Setouchi Ambience It's
a soothing video that weaves together greenery, mist, the sound of rain, and silence The audio is recorded using binaural sound. We recommend watching with headphones.
