瀬戸内海のほぼ中央に浮かぶ大久野島。別名「ウサギの島」として国内外の旅行者に知られるこの島へ、僕はある“狙い”を持って訪れました。
目的は、雨の音を録ること。
ただの雨ではなく、「確実に降る雨」が必要でした。
というのも、地元・香川県は瀬戸内気候ゆえに雨の予報が外れがちで、撮影機材を抱えての空振りはあまりにリスクが高い。
その点、今年の広島県方面は比較的まとまった雨が多く、ちょうど良いタイミングで、確かな降雨が予測されていたのです。
■アクセス：瀬戸内の旅路
今回の旅程はやや複雑でしたが、旅の過程もまた愉しみのひとつです。
- 坂出駅からJR四国の「Sきっぷ」を利用して、特急で今治駅へ。
- 今治駅からは因島方面へ向かう高速バスに乗り、大三島インターで下車。
- 数分歩いて「道の駅 多々羅しまなみ公園」へ。
- ここからはHELLO CYCLINGのシェアサイクルを使って、盛港を目指します。
この時点では、フェリーの時刻にもまだ余裕があるつもりでした。
■まさかのハプニング
ところが途中で道を逸れてしまい、フェリーの出発直前に港へ到着。
焦りながらもどうにか乗船……した、その直後。
「……あれ？機材がない！」
なんと、撮影機材一式を自転車のカゴに置き忘れるという大失態。
慌てて船員さんに事情を話し、すでに出航準備中だったフェリーから港へ逆戻り。
この便にはもう乗れないと悟り、次の便で仕切り直すことにしました。
■ようやく上陸。だが、雨が止む
再び港へ戻り、今度こそ無事に大久野島へ。
しかし、到着したころにはちょうど雨のピークが過ぎた直後でした。
仕方なく、スマホでYahoo天気アプリを開いて雨雲レーダーとにらめっこ。
幸い、しばらくして再び雨雲が接近。
ようやく、本来の目的である静かな雨音とウサギたちの風景を捉える撮影に成功したのでした。
■今回の動画について
動画の中では、島の静けさ、草をはむウサギたち、そしてしとしとと降る雨の音が、まるで夢の中のような空間を作り出しています。

■あとがき
雨を求めて訪れた大久野島で、まさか機材を忘れるとは思いませんでしたが、結果的にはこの旅も記憶に残る大切な1日となりました。

Chasing the Rain on Ōkunoshima – A Quiet Island of Rabbits and a Sudden Mishap
Ōkunoshima, a small island floating in the heart of the Seto Inland Sea, is widely known as “Rabbit Island.” Many YouTubers have featured it, and I had long been curious to visit myself.
But this time, I had a clear goal in mind:
to capture the sound of rain.
■ Why Ōkunoshima?
Unlike Kagawa Prefecture, where I live, rain forecasts here are often unreliable.
When filming with heavy equipment, chasing uncertain weather is a huge risk.
This year, however, the Hiroshima area (where Ōkunoshima is located) had been experiencing consistent rainfall.
That’s what made the island such a promising destination—an island in the rain, filled with rabbits.
It sounded like the perfect ambient scene.
■ The Journey: Train, Bus, and a Dash for the Ferry
Here’s how I got there:
- From Sakaide Station, I used JR Shikoku’s “S-ticket” to catch a limited express train to Imabari.
- From Imabari Station, I took a highway bus toward Innoshima, getting off at Ōmishima Interchange.
- I walked a few minutes to the Tatarashimanami Park Roadside Station, where I rented a HELLO CYCLINGbicycle and pedaled toward Mori Port to catch the ferry.
So far, so good—until I lost my way.
I arrived at the port just moments before the ferry’s departure, flustered but relieved.
But as soon as I stepped onto the ferry, I realized something shocking:
I had left my camera gear in the basket of the rental bike.
Panicked, I informed the ferry staff and was allowed to disembark right before departure.
As a result, I missed that ferry and had to wait for the next one.
■ Rain… and Then No Rain
When I finally arrived on Ōkunoshima, the rain had just passed.
My timing was off. I opened the Yahoo Weather app and stared at the radar, hoping for another shower.
After some waiting, the rain returned—just enough to shoot the footage I had come for:
gentle rain, quiet scenery, and curious rabbits.
■ About the Video
It features the serene sounds of rain, rustling leaves, and the occasional soft patter of rabbit footsteps.

The thumbnail for this video was created using AI-generated imagery, based on advice from ChatGPT.
I wanted to express a dreamlike version of the island—something you might imagine when hearing the term “Rabbit Island in the rain.”
While the actual footage is grounded and natural, the thumbnail adds a layer of fantasy that I hope sparks curiosity.
■ Final Thoughts
I traveled in search of rain, and I ended up with a forgotten camera, a missed ferry, and a quiet walk in the drizzle with rabbits.
All of it became part of the story.
