It will be more rainy than usual in the Setouchi region in May 2025.
As of May 14th, when I am writing this article, there has been one rainy day almost every week .
For me, who shoots videos with the theme of rain sounds and rainy scenery, this is truly a "blessing of rain."
As a photographer, I spend every week thinking about how to make the most of this wonderful opportunity that nature has prepared for me.
A Japanese garden in the rain is the best
Currently, the latest videos on my YouTube channel are 4k ASMR | Rainy Japanese Garden Walk with Birds & Flowers | Red Torii Tunnel & Bamboo | Nakazu Banshoen Rainy Japanese Garden , and judging from the reaction since they were released, they have been very well received.
What I feel once again is that the theme of "a Japanese garden in the rain" resonates strongly with overseas viewers as well .
The chirping of birds, the rain-soaked trees, the silence of the garden...
It seems that many people are attracted to this "other side" of the Japanese garden, which is completely different from what it looks like on sunny days.
The next photo opportunity is Ritsurin Garden again
The next location I'm considering for the shoot Ritsurin Garden, a Japanese garden that represents Kagawa Prefecture .
Windy.com which I regularly refer to , there is a possibility of heavy rain in the Setouchi region this weekend on May 17th.
The amount of rain was so heavy that it could be considered a nightmare for photographers, but from the perspective of sound and scenery, it also made for very attractive conditions
Early morning openings and quiet weekends
One of the great attractions of Ritsurin Garden is that it opens at 5:30am in May
Like me,
- Low-traffic times
- An environment with little vehicle noise
- I want to carefully pick up the sounds of rain and nature
This is the perfect combination for this style of photography
Furthermore, this time it was a Saturday morning.
Compared to weekdays, there were fewer commuter vehicles and the traffic noise on Chuo-dori Avenue facing the park was muted , so I thought it was the ideal timing to record the "quiet Ritsurin Garden."
No matter how many times I visit Ritsurin Garden, I can never get enough of it
I have photographed Ritsurin Garden many times,
but every time I visit, I feel like there are still new faces I haven't captured yet.
In the future,
- A long video consisting entirely of Ritsurin Garden
- A series that records changes in the seasons and weather
